Our Approach
At Mano Palm Oil Industries (MPOI), sustainability is at the heart of how we operate and grow. As one of Liberia’s leading agribusinesses, we recognize our responsibility to manage natural resources wisely, protect people and ecosystems, and build a palm oil industry that creates long-term shared value.
Our Commitment
We are building a business that is both economically resilient and environmentally responsible. Our sustainability strategy is based on three pillars:
- Environmental Protection
- Human Rights & Inclusion
- Transparent, Traceable Supply Chains
We are continuously strengthening our practices to align with international standards, while remaining grounded in Liberia’s unique social and environmental context.
RSPO Membership & Certification
MPOI is a proud member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and is actively working toward certification. Our goal is to align our plantation, mill, and upcoming refinery with RSPO’s Principles and Criteria, ensuring our products meet the highest global standards for environmental and social performance.
NDPE-Aligned Practices
We are committed to a No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation (NDPE) policy. Our actions include:
- Zero land clearing in high conservation value (HCV) or high carbon stock (HCS) areas
- No development on peatlands, regardless of depth
- Respecting the rights of workers, local communities, and indigenous peoples
- Free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) in all community interactions
Traceability
Traceability is a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. At MPOI, we believe that knowing where our palm oil comes from — and how it was produced — is essential to building trust with customers, partners, and communities.
Because our supply chain is fully integrated, we are uniquely positioned to offer high levels of traceability. We own and operate the plantation, mill, and soon the refinery, giving us end-to-end visibility and control over the entire production process.
We are currently:
- Mapping and monitoring our plantation boundaries and production blocks using GPS and satellite tools
- Recording and tracking fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from harvest to processing
- Developing internal systems to trace every batch of crude palm oil (CPO) and crude palm kernel oil (CPKO) to its exact source
As we work toward RSPO certification, we are also adopting best practices in traceability reporting and documentation. These efforts will allow us to demonstrate our compliance with international standards, strengthen supply chain integrity, and prepare for advanced certification pathways in the future.
Our long-term goal is to offer partners transparent, auditable data that proves our products are sustainably sourced — and 100% traceable to origin.
Smallholder Inclusion
We believe a sustainable industry must be an inclusive one. As we expand, MPOI is actively exploring opportunities to integrate smallholder farmers into our supply chain — providing technical support, access to markets, and shared standards for quality and sustainability. This approach is critical to promoting rural development and broad-based economic empowerment in Liberia.
Looking Ahead
Our sustainability journey is ongoing. We are building internal capacity, investing in training, and engaging partners to continuously raise the bar. By prioritizing transparency, environmental integrity, and community wellbeing, we aim to set a new benchmark for palm oil in West Africa.
